As part of migrating some of the Math Twitter Blogosphere (#MTBoS) over to Mathstodon, we decided to set up a chat. This worked well for bringing people together during the early years of math teachers on Twitter, so hopefully, it can do the same on Mathstodon.
Based on a small sample of interested people, we’ve settled on Saturdays at 9 am PST / 5 pm GMT to meet. The chat will be a hybrid slow/synchronous chat, which basically means, you can join us at the time if you like or respond to posts later as you like.
If you want to get involved, first you have to sign up for a Mastodon account. You can sign up on any server you like, but many of us will be on Mathstodon.xyz. Once you do so, follow the MTBoS bot. Every time this bot is mentioned by someone who follows it, it boosts the post, which means that everyone who follows this bot, regardless of which timeline they are on, will see the post. After that, search for the #mathed hashtag and find conversations to join and engage in.
The rules are fairly simple; engage in respectful discussion even when you disagree with someone, aim to include everyone, and assume the best intent from everyone participating. If you feel like these rules are not being followed by someone, let us know.
